Q: Is there a Library database that checks interactions between prescriptions and supplements?

Question: Is there a library resource that allows me to check medication interactions between prescriptions and supplements?

Answer: Yes! Use the interactions checker in The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database.

• Quickly screen for interactions between drugs and supplements. 

• Select multi-ingredient supplement products from Natural Medicine's Commercial Products database to pull in all relevant ingredients at once. 

• Plus, get evidence-based interaction ratings to help you determine which interactions are the most clinically significant.

Q: Do we have access to clinical guidelines from ACOG?

Question: Do we have access to clinical practice guidelines or bulletins from ACOG?  It says I need to be a member to access them ... 

Answer: YES!  Many of the ACOG practice guidelines and bulletins are published in the ACOG professional journal,  Obstetrics & Gynecology.  We have a statewide subscription for this journal through Ovid. This way, you don't need to be an ACOG member to access the guidelines published in the journal.  

You can see the list of ACOG's current titles under Clinical Guidance.  Although we do not have institutional access through the ACOG website, the list can help identify current titles.

Most of these are also indexed in PubMed as published in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology.

If you have need help in pulling the ACOG guidelines from the Ob/Gyn journal, contact Ascension Wisconsin Library Services.  We'll be glad to help you!

Question:  Where can I get free CME credits to fulfill the new DEA registration requirements?

Answer:  Peggy Lutz maintains the Pain Management / Opioid Prescribing page on the Good Day Ascension Wisconsin intranet [internal use only].

Toward the bottom center, there is a document called: DEA Education Requirement and Eligible Programs [pdf]. 

• Explains the new requirement
• Lists multiple Ascension CME programs that will count toward the new 8 credit DEA CME registration requirements.

Mom & Dad's Nipple Factory [Documentary]

 

Were any of you able to see Mom & Dad's Nipple Factory  when the Milwaukee Film Society showed it back in April?    

Ascension Wisconsin Librarian Kellee Selden recommends this film if you have a chance to see it.  It has tremendous implications for breast cancer survivors, with Wisconsin roots.

Director Justinsuperstar tells the love story of his parents in his feature documentary Mom & Dad's Nipple Factory

When Randi is diagnosed with breast cancer, her husband Brian, an introverted serial entrepreneur and tinkerer, embarks on a journey to restore her that is anything but ordinary. Following her successful mastectomy of one breast and later, an innovative breast reconstruction process, Brian realizes the love of his life is still feeling incomplete. Learning from everyone he can inside their small Wisconsin town and beyond, starting with the local dentist, he launches a project to build her the perfect matching nipple - a project that neither of them realizes has the power to change thousands of lives ...

Mom & Dad's Nipple Factory is a quirky and heartwarming look at how a conservative Christian couple deals with starting a nipple prosthetic business, all while staying under the radar from their friends, church and five children.

Question:  Can Advanced Practice Nurses get CME/CEU Credit for Searching DynaMed?

Answer: YES!  

DynaMed offers CEU credits through The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) accreditation to earn CEU credits, including pharmacology.  CME credits are now available for APN's through The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
