Q&A: How do I get to the fulltext article listed in NRC Plus?

Question: How do I get to the fulltext article listed in NRC Plus?

Answer:  Since NRC Plus is a national subscription, it does NOT integrate with our local library resources in that we are NOT able to include a find-full text link within NRC Plus that leads to the full text in our local Ascension Wisconsin collections. 

So my suggestion is to copy the article title [Use quotes] and paste it into the Discover box on the AW Library home page  (Google "Ascension WI Library"):  

Then click on View Full Text link underneath the citation.  

If we do not have the fulltext, you'll see a link to Request Item instead.  Click on that and it will pull the citation info into a form where you can add your contact info, and submit to your AW  Librarians.  In most cases, we can order it through our ILL system for you.  

Then you can view fulltext or download the pdf as desired.

It's an extra step, but it will allow you to link in to our fulltext offerings in WI.

Mercy Library Seed Exchange

The Mercy Library in Oshkosh is offering a Seed Exchange, where garden enthusiasts can share seeds that grow well in their own local gardens.  

Participation in the project not only builds community, but also promotes sustainability among plants and pollinators.

1. Visit the Mercy Library (Oshkosh) to pick up seeds.
2. Grow your plants and enjoy the harvest.
3. After harvest, collect and share seeds with neighbors (if you like).

So far, we are offering the following flower seeds in The Mercy Library Seed Exchange:

• 4 O'Clocks (pink and yellow)
• Hollyhocks (mixed)
• Marigolds
• Moon Flower
• Pink Hibiscus
• Purple Cleome
• Purple Tall Balloon
• Swamp Milkweed
• Sweet Peas

This editorial explains how AI could negatively affects the clinical setting. In summary,

1) AI's assistance with inbox management and documentation may dehumanize the clinician-patient relationship

2) The volume of documentation that is generated by AI may contribute to clinician burnout.

3) AI's output is only as good as the training data that it receives; this may lead to critical information being overlooked.

4) AI has the potential to fabricate information or confabulate, as well-described limitation of AI, in a way that may alter the course of a patient's care.

On the AW Library home page, you can easily search our Library Catalog by choosing the AW Library Catalog (circled in red in the snippet above) tab on the Discover search engine.

Choosing the AW Library Catalog tab will allow you to search just the AW Library catalog, without everything else in our Discover Search engine.  

• Use the field drop-down menu to search by title or author.    
• Our catalog includes eBook listings and links for Clinical Key, AccessMedicine, R2 Digital Library , Ebsco eBooks and StatRef.  Our eBooks are available to AW Associates statewide, no matter what site you work at.
• Note: the catalog does NOT search the fulltext of our ebooks.
• The catalog also lists print holdings in the 3 physical libraries at Mercy (Oshkosh), St. Joe's and Columbia-St Mary's in Milwaukee.

Q: How do I access National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Guidelines?  They keep asking for a login ...

A: You can sign up for a FREE login on the NCCN website.  

This will allow you to access NCCN guidelines and other content.  They just want to have a better idea of WHO is using their content.

The February 2024 Art In Medicine topic is about Brigid: Goddess & Saint of Ireland.

Lucinda Bennett, the Medical Librarian at Ascension St Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD,  publishes a regular series on Art in Medicine and The Health Humanities.    

It's only 1-2 pages with gorgeous images, so it won't take you long to read ... and just might enrich your life.   

This month, Lucinda is featuring Brigid, Goddess & Saint of Ireland.

World religion is a fascinating subject as it provides such a

unique window into the ways in which humanity internalizes

archetypes and symbols into understandable concepts.

Every faith has its own mythologies explaining why the

earth exits, dedicating legends to natural phenomena and

then exchanging those ideas over centuries. The blending

of concepts both artistic and philosophical is known as

syncretism. Among the most respected female figures in

Irish mythology is Brigid, a perfect example of this cultural

exchange. As it so happens, February 1st is her feast day,

so who better to study this month than this charismatic

patroness of healers and poets?
