Want Help Updating Patient Care Policies & Procedures?

Are you updating policies and procedures for patient care?
  • Let your Librarians help.
  • We can locate current evidence-based practice info
  • and help format proper citations to document your practice changes.

o   Hint: Listing a naked url is not enough.  Links go bad, and without additional citation info, it’s difficult to track down what you were referring to.

Want to do it yourself?
Start with the following excellent sources:
·         Nursing Reference Center Plus
·         Nursing Point of Care Tools
·         Nursing Specialties LibGuide

·         PubMed (for journal articles, systematic reviews and guidelines0
·         Cinahl (for journal articles in Nursing & Allied Health)
·         Clinical Key (Medical eBooks, journals, and guidelines)

·         Citing Sources

Introducing The Nursing Point-of-Care LibGuide--now available statewide across Ascension Wisconsin.

By Michele Matucheski, MLS, AHIP – Ascension Librarian

            > Save this link for future use.

The Nursing Point-of-Care  LibGuide pulls together some of the just-in-time online reference tools that are most useful for nurses in direct care of patients, including:
  • Nursing Procedure Manuals
      • (includes The Lippincott Manuals, known to be excellent nursing references for policies & procedures)
  • Diseases & Disorders
  • Drug Info
  • Lab Tests
  • Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary
  • Cinahl (Find Nursing Articles)
  • Patient Education
  • And links to go deeper with the Nursing Specialties LibGuide and Clinical Key.

This is meant to be a temporary solution until Ascension chooses a standardized nursing point-of-care tool and makes it available nation-wide.  There will be some lag time before an Ascension Wisconsin state-wide subscription for this NEW nursing point-of-care (POC) tool goes into effect later in 2018.   Until then, use this LibGuide.

How to get there via the legacy intranets :

            or    MHC : The Source > Links & Resources > Nursing Point-of-Care

            WFHC : TauNet > Library > Nursing Point-of-Care Tools

We are also working to get this link included in the various EHRs around Wisconsin and legacy intranets.

Introducing the Nursing Point-of-Care LibGuide for Ministry Health Care

Just a quick reminder that Nursing Reference Center will be going away as of December  31, 2017, for Ministry Health Care.

What to use instead :  The Nursing Point-of-Care Tool

How to get there on the MHC Intranet :
Save this link for future use.

With the expiration of Nursing Reference Center on December 31, 2017, there will be some lag  time before an Ascension Wisconsin state-wide subscription for a NEW Nursing point-of-care (POC) tool goes into effect later in 2018.

The Nursing Point-of-Care  LibGuide pulls together some of the online resources that were
formerly available through NRC, including :
                Nursing Procedure Manuals
                Diseases & Disorders
                Drug Info
                Lab Tests
                Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary
                CinahlFT
                Patient Education
And links to go deeper with the Nursing Specialties LibGuide and Clinical Key.

I know this solution is not ideal, and is meant to be a temporary fix.
